The second higher education

The system of postgraduate training has existed and been developed in the University since 1968. The changes in social and economic atmosphere set up new demands for the postgraduate education. So the experts’ education has to be held in accordance with the current issues of transitional and market economics. Because of it in 1996 the Faculty of Postgraduate Training (FPT) was created in the USMTU (Ukrainian State Marine Technical University).
An urgent need of the regional enterprises for experts of stock market management and development, anti-crisis management, organization and management in the special economic zone (SEZ “Mykolayiv”) required increase of educational services of the postgraduate training. So in 2000 the USMTU Academic Board considered and approved the proposal to create the Institute of Postgraduate Studies on the basis of the FPT in the university structure.

On February, 2001, on the basis of FPT the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) was created (the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Science No. 51, dated February 7, 2001, and the Decree of the Rector No. 130-к, dated March 2, 2001).
By experience our graduates with engineering and management education are in demand in the labour market.
The Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) provides such educational services:
1. Experts’ retraining (the second higher education)

Training period: 2 years 6 months

Mode of study: extramural, extramural and evening

Enrolment depends on the interview results, basic education and retraining field.

The Institute of Postgraduate Studies is a structural subunit of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.
When you graduate the IPS you are given a retraining (the second higher education)diploma or an advanced training certificate.
The IPS educational process is held by the university leading teachers, experts from Mykolayiv enterprises and organizations. There is also the teachers’ constant advanced training. The material and technical basis is developed. The Computer Technologies Laboratory is equipped with modern computers, connected into local network with access to the Internet.
