REGULATIONS
on the NUS scientific schools

1. A definition and activity principles
1.1. A scientific school is a scientific team formed after many years of fruitful work solving current problems of a certain direction; it is efficient and its results have a great social significance.
1.2. A scientific school should perform both educational and scientific activity, fulfill fundamental and applied Research and Development (R&D) projects; it should publish their materials annually, also in international editions, write monographs and tutorials with stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science, books, patents; it should have Candidates of Sciences (Ph.D.) and Doctors of Sciences, developed theories, techniques, equipment, technologies, materials and other achievements recognized by the scientific world and applied in science and practice; it should participate and hold different scientific conferences.
A scientific school team is organized on the basis of traditions, ideas, techniques, creative freedom, discussions, unity of tasks and goals. A head of a scientific school is to be a Doctor of Sciences.
2. Demands for a scientific school:
– a current scientific direction affirmed by the NUS Scientific and Technical Board;
– a team of professional and scientific people;
– a Doctor of Sciences as a head of the scientific school;
– a number of publications (over 200) in this direction in professional editions, state and international editions; monographs, tutorials with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science, textbooks;
– a postgraduate (Ph.D.) course in scientific speciality of the school; defended doctoral theses and over 5 candidate’s theses in directions of the school, including not less than 3 under direction of the head of scientific school;
– considerable results of scientists of the school approbated in practice and educational process (certificates of authorship, patents, standards and other normative materials, licenses etc.);
– the participation of the school scientists, especially of the head, in preparation and attestation of the scientific personnel, in the activity of specialized academic boards in defense of doctoral theses, in councils of experts etc.;
– the participation of the school scientists, especially of the head, in editorial boards of professional scientific and technical editions;
– the membership of the school scientists in social scientific and coordinating boards in the appropriate direction, in the activity of state, foreign social academies, institutes etc.;
– international collaboration;
– their own scientific conferences (including international ones) in the appropriate directions (over 1 conference per 3 years);
– the annual participation in scientific conferences;
– the fulfillment of R&D projects financed on the account of common and special budgets;
– the training of Masters in the appropriate directions;
– the work with talented students and attraction to the scientific research;
– the development of higher education based on scientific activity results.

The Regulations are affirmed by the NUS Scientific and Expert Board.
