Academic Board of National University of Shipbuilding

The head of Academic Board is the Rector of the University or the first Vice-Rector (if the Rector is absent).

Academic Board consists of: Vice-Rectors; heads of institutes; deans; an accounting manager; heads of bodies of self-government; trade union chiefs; elective representatives of research and educational personnel chosen among all the heads of the university departments, Professors and Doctors of Sciences; elective representatives of the rest personnel working there on continuing basis. More than 75% of the board is the research and educational personnel of the University.

The elective representatives are chosen within the conference of the university work collective according to the department they work in.

Academic Board composition is to be affirmed with the Decree of the Rector for a term of 5 years. If a member of Academic Board leaves, he/she has to be substituted within a month but not later than 3 days before the next Academic Board meeting.

There are such authorities within the scope of Academic Board:

– to provide a draft version of the Statute to the highest body of self-government (conference of work collective) and to correct and edit it;

– to affirm the financial plan and report of the University;

– to provide the Rector with the candidates to the posts of Vice-Rector, accounting manager and chief librarian;

– to assign to the posts of the Rector’s adviser, heads of institutes, deans, heads of departments;

– to assign members of teaching personnel who are claiming for the ranks/posts of Professors, Assistant Professors, senior teachers, and who don’t have an appropriate degree or rank;

– to approve the decisions of organization of teaching and educational process;

– to approve the decisions of university enrollment organization and of agitation and professionally oriented work;

– to approve the main scientific research orientation;

– to assess research and educational activity of structural units;

– to deal with the candidates receiving ranks of Professor, Assistant Professor;

– to confer the ranks of Professor, Assistant Professor of National University of Shipbuilding;

– to set scholarships to students, postgraduate students, young scholars;

– to give recommendations about printing of books, manuals, collections of studies and the other literature in the University or in the main publishing companies;

– to offer candidates for enrollment to the doctoral candidacy and to expulse from postgraduate course, doctoral candidacy;

– to approve topics of theses;

– to chose ongoing committees and heads of them;

– to work up in the appropriate committees and submit projects of the Ukrainian normative documents regulating statute activity, plans of creation, organization and liquidation of the main structural management units of the departments and of the University in general for approval to the Rector;

– to choose the candidates for conferment of honorary ranks, titles, awards, for representation in the academies and other scientific and educational institutions etc.

Of course, there are more authorities concerning activity of the University in accordance with the Statute of Higher Educational Institutions within the scope of Academic Board.

The work of Academic Board is led according to the curriculum developed for an academic year (a term). After Academic Board the curriculum is to be affirmed by the Rector. The decisions of Academic Board are enforced after the Rector’s affirmation. They are to be obligatorily fulfilled by the scientific and educational personnel, the rest personnel and the students of Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.
